Mixing is a significant stage in the song’s development. It is important to note that it is a complicated stage. Booking an expert could be expensive, this is the reason why many artists prefer doing it themselves. However, you could do it yourself with the help of mastering tutorials. Remember that mixing is an art and requires a good amount of practice. Therefore, before you begin to mix your music, it is important to be aware of the mistakes that musicians make such as

  • Inconsistent Vocals

Except for the instrumental tracks, vocals are the crucial instrument in each mix. However, most of the vocal performances are lively. Sometimes, they are quiet, and sometimes they are loud. To ensure the listener could hear each word, you need to use the compressor or do fader-riding for creating consistent dynamics.  You could begin by turning the vocal up so that it is audible and then consider using the compressor to tame the peak for consistent sound.

  • Not Having a Plan

Loading up a mix and adding compressors as well as EQs on each track could be wrong. Before you begin adding the plug-ins, it is advised to determine what you wish the track to sound like. This could help you work towards your goal. Using reference mixes is an easy way to make the mixes sound competitive.

  • Mixing in Solo

To hear the songs clearly, it could be appealing to solo the tracks when mixing. However, listening to the tracks in remoteness clouds judgment. Rather than making the song sound good, you end up making the song sound good in solo. Adjusting the EQ setting as well as dial-in compressors when the mix is playing could help you work towards a big picture.

Along with these, another common mistake is using reverb too much. It is advised to take enough time to tweak the reverbs until they sound right as it is an easy way to clean up the muddy mix.
